Hot Portugal Heirloom Pepper 10 Seeds - Spicy and Sweet
Hot Portugal chile peppers have a subtle, sweet flavor mixed with a moderate to hot level of spice that lingers on the palate.
These seeds were offered in 1935 by Joseph Harris & Co. of Rochester, New York, who reported, “If you want a large hot pepper, you should try the new Hot Portugal. The best hot pepper we know.”
This is a very early maturing pepper variety with peppers that are ready to pick in 65 days after transplanting into the garden. The glossy red 6” peppers grow on sturdy 4’ plants.
Capsicum annuum (65-75 days) Heat Level: Very Hot Scoville: 30,000
The packet contains 10 seeds.
In early spring, start seeds indoors 8 weeks prior to warm nightly temperatures. Place the seeds in sterile media and cover 1/4” deep. Provide 85°F bottom heat, bright light, and always keep moist. Seeds will germinate in 14 - 21 days. Transplant seedlings into pots and grow until there are 6 true leaves on the plant. Plant them directly into rich soil, 30” apart, or into large 5-gallon containers. Harvest chiles when they are red.
All of our seeds are GMO-free.
